Pack 564 scouts will be out again Saturday collecting donations to send popcorn to our service members, their families and veterans organizations. A portion also benefits Pack 564’s year-round program of citizenship, character-building and fun.

You can also purchase a box of Ultimate Butter or Butter Light microwave popcorn or a bag of caramel corn for yourself!

Here’s the schedule. Come out and donate to support our troops and your local scouts!

  • Kroger at Killian Hill and Stone Mountain Highway from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Lowes in Snellville from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Bass Pro Shops at Sugarloaf Mills from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Thanks in advance for your support!

9/11 commemoration set for Sunday

NX_fireman_standing_lowangle_wtc_bldgSweetwater District is holding a commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at the Fallen Heroes Memorial at Gwinnett County Justice & Administration Center, 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville.

“We will not only be honoring those whose lives were lost 15 years ago, but recognizing the many everyday heroes in our community,” according to the district. “These are the first responders who protect the residents and visitors of Gwinnett County and the 16 cities within Gwinnett County. You might know them better as the police, sheriff, fire and EMT personnel. In addition we are also thanking the men and women serving in the armed forces whose dedication and service help keep us the nation we are today.”

The event will last for about an hour, and will feature a flyover.

Organizers recommend arriving by 8 a.m. as seating will be limited.

We just learned of  this event, so won’t be organizing anything as a pack, but this would be a tremendous opportunity to observe this solemn occasion with your scout.

According to the district, 500 scouts turned out for the 10th anniversary of the attacks in 2011 and they are trying to best that result.

Support a Cub Scout, get a treat for yourself!

caramel corn

The lessons learned in Cub Scouts may be priceless, but the cost of delivering a year of fun-filled and character-building activities is downright expensive. That’s why Pack 564 is asking you to support our efforts by contributing to our annual fundraiser.

You can contribute in one of two ways:

  • Purchase delicious popcorn from one of our scouts. Many will be going door-to-door the next few months requesting your support. If you don’t have a scout in your neighborhood, feel free to contact us and we’ll put you in touch with someone.
  • Donate money at our popcorn-for-troops fundraisers at area Krogers and other locations. Check our Facebook page for this weekend’s locations!

Your support will help provide a year’s worth of fun and character-building experiences for more than 100 Lilburn-area boys.

Thanks!

Support our troops while supporting our scouts

american-soldier-serviceman-saluting_GJemNwLd_L
It’s fall, which means it’s popcorn time for our scouts. As we have for the last few years, Pack 564 scouts and their parents are giving up part of their weekend to raise money to send delicious Trail’s End popcorn to service members, their families and veterans’ organizations.

A portion of the money raised will also help support Pack 564’s character- and citizenship-building programs.

Scouts will be at the Kroger on Rockbridge Road in Stone Mountain all day this coming Saturday, Sept. 3, so stop by if you’re in the neighborhood and help send a treat to our troops and help support your neighborhood Cub Scout at the same time.

More dates and times are coming, so check back here or follow our Facebook page for updates.

Welcome, new families, to Pack 564!

header-pack564-w-bkgrd

On behalf of everyone at Pack 564, we’d like to warmly welcome you to Cub Scouts! We know you and your son will have lots of adventures together as your son develops new skills, builds character and has fun while doing it.

We’ve put together a list of things you need to know right now. If you have any additional questions, do not hesitate to contact us!

  • All boys and parents new to scouting should make plans to attend a parent orientation session and Bobcat training class Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Mountain Park United Methodist Church. At this meeting, you’ll learn more about the pack and your role in it while your son works towards his Bobcat badge – the first step on his scouting journey. Please register for the Parent Orientation and Bobcat class below so we prepare materials for the meeting.
  • You’ll want to get over to the Scout Shop as soon as it’s convenient and pick up your son’s uniform and handbook. You’ll want him to be in uniform Tuesday for the orientation session, and he should have his handbook with him.
  • If your son is joining as a Lion or a Tiger, the date of your first den meeting may have been given to you Thursday night at Roundup or Tuesday night at Orientation. If it wasn’t, or you need it again, please check our calendar. If your son is joining in second through fifth grades, you should contact your den leader for details.
  • Before we even get together for our first pack meeting, we’ll begin working on our annual fall fundraiser, selling Trail’s End popcorn. We’ll cover the details of this fundraiser at our Parent Orientation session and Bobcat training class  on Tuesday, Aug. 23. You’ll learn how your scout can pay their pack dues and even earn additional credit that they can apply to future scouting events.
  • To keep up with all that’s happening in the pack, join our private Facebook group and bookmark or subscribe to the pack calendar.  After you request membership in the closed Facebook group, please send an email to news@bsapack564.org with the names you requested membership for, the name of the scout and, if you have it, his den number. The Facebook group is for parents and guardians only. Please refer friends and other family members to the website or our public Facebook page, which we also encourage you to “like” so that you can share posts from the pack regarding service projects and other activities.
  • The first pack meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 13.
  • The Resources for Scouts and Parents page has lots of good information you may want to review.
  • The Parent Handbook is also available online, in case you haven’t received a copy.
