Popcorn sales begin this weekend

2010_TrailsEndIt’s time to get popping!

Popcorn sales begin this weekend with booths at select Krogers. New to the mix this year: the ability to offer individual packets of microwave popcorn to customers in addition to accepting military donations.

As of the morning of Aug. 27, slots are available for the morning of Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Beaver Ruin Kroger. You can check current availability at the signup site. One shift per scout until all scouts have had a chance to work a shift, please.

You’ll also want to make sure you attend this year’s popcorn kickoff on Thursday, Sept. 3 at Monkey Joe’s in Tucker. At this session, you’ll learn more about how this year’s program will work and receive your scout’s sales materials.

Pizza will be served for dinner.

If you have questions about the popcorn program,  you can check our Popcorn resource page, or email Lance Wallace, this year’s popcorn chair.

Welcome new scouting families!

header-pack564-w-bkgrd

On behalf of everyone at Pack 564, we’d like to warmly welcome you to Cub Scouts! We know you and your son will have lots of adventures together as your son develops new skills, builds character and has fun while doing it.

We’ve put together a list of things you need to know right now. If you have any additional questions, do not hesitate to contact us!

  • All boys and parents new to scouting should make plans to attend an orientation session and Bobcat training class Tuesday night at Mountain Park United Methodist Church. At this meeting, you’ll learn more about the pack and your role in it while your son works towards his Bobcat badge — the first step on his scouting journey. You can register for the class and submit questions by clicking the link above.
  • You’ll want to get over to the Scout Shop as soon as it’s convenient and pick up your son’s uniform and handbook. You’ll want him to be in uniform Tuesday for the orientation session, and he should have his handbook with him. While you’re there, you may want to ask about picking up your son’s complimentary ticket for Scout Day at the Braves on Oct. 4 (other family members may purchase a discounted ticket).
  • If your son is joining as a Tiger, the date of your first den meeting may have been given to you Thursday night at Roundup or Tuesday night at Orientation. If it wasn’t, or you need it again, please check our calendar. If your son is joining in second through fifth grades, you should contact your den leader for details.
  • Before we even get together for our first pack meeting, we’ll begin working on our annual fall fundraiser, selling Trail’s End popcorn. There’s an informational meeting scheduled for Sept. 3 at Monkey Joe’s in Tucker that you will NOT want to miss. The kids will get to play and we’ll be serving pizza for dinner while you learn about this crucially important event for our pack.
  • To keep up with all that’s happening in the pack, subscribe to our weekly newsletter, join our private Facebook group and bookmark or subscribe to the pack calendar.  After you request membership in the closed Facebook group, please send an email to news@bsapack564.org with the names you requested membership for, the name of the scout and, if you have it, his den number. The Facebook group is for parents and guardians only. Please refer friends and other family members to the website or our public Facebook page, which you are also welcome to “like.”
  • We have two other events you need to have on your radar screen. One is the kickoff event for our annual fall popcorn fundraiser. It’s set for Thursday, Sept. 3 and you can get all the details at our event page. Also, you’ll want to attend the first pack meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 8.
  • The Resources for Scouts and Parents page has lots of good information you may want to review.
  • The Parent Handbook is also available online, in case you haven’t received a copy.
