This year we’ll take a day trip to Chattanooga, TN on March 12, 2022. We’ll start the day at Rock City Gardens to explore the walking trail through natural geological and botanical wonders. Later, we’ll head to the Incline Railway to ride up Lookout Mountain on the world’s steepest passenger railway.
Itinerary
10:30 – 2:30 – Rock City Gardens
Rock City Gardens is an enchanted 4,100-foot walking trail showcasing soaring rock formations, caves, and lush gardens. Learn how the enchanting rock formations were developed through the history of the earth to bring us the beauty we see today. Rock City provides an unparalleled view of the southeastern landscape and a way to see the earth from a commanding position. Photos taken from our viewpoints provide scouts with a great tool to locate rivers, lakes, mountain ranges, and massive plains of pasture. Check out their website for more Things to Do at Rock City Gardens.
Rock City will be holding its annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival, Shamrock City, during our visit. We are planning extra time to check out the Irish dancing, food, and animals that will be there.
Lunch
Lunch is at your convenience and you may choose to eat at one of Rock City’s three restaurants, take advantage of the Shamrock City Irish food options, or head to one of Chattanooga’s excellent restaurants. Lunch is not included in the ticket price.
3:00 – Incline Railway
The Incline Railway is a 46 passenger rail car that travels a 72% grade up Lookout Mountain. It departs from the historic town of St. Elmo, which has a variety of shops, ice cream, coffee, and more. At the top Incline station, there is an observation deck to take in the scenic views of the Chattanooga Valley.
Because our group is large, we’ll have tickets for 2-3 time slots beginning at 3:00 PM and running every 10 minutes.
