Lad and Dad Cake Bake: New rules to know about

cakeShipThe November pack meeting is less than a week away, which means it’s time to start thinking about your entry in the annual Lad and Dad Cake Bake!

New rules are in effect this year requiring that cakes be made of predominantly edible materials. They’ll also be sampled, although taste will not be taken into account as part of the judging.

Because they’ll be sampled at the pack meeting, cakes should also include a list of any potentially allergic ingredients. Parents, please assume all cakes contain allergens unless they’re specifically labeled allergen free.

As always, Tigers can enter cakes illustrated any way they and their adult partners please. Other scouts must enter cakes decorated to one of four themes: Scouting, holidays, sports or transportation.

For full rules and inspiration, please visit the Lad and Dad page of the website!

Uniform Inspection at tomorrow night’s pack meeting

pack meetingScouts from Troop 549 will inspect uniforms of all scouts and scouters at tomorrow night’s meeting. This isn’t a hard-core inspection, but you’ll still want to send your boys looking their best.

Review the uniform inspection sheet to know what the scouts will be graded on, but you can ignore the lines about pants and socks. Pack 564’s uniform policy is “belt up,” meaning official pants and socks are not required.

We’ll also hear more about the Pinewood Derby and Blue and Gold Banquet.

This will also be your last chance to register in person for the Spring Trip, although you can  can register online anytime on the website or in person through Jan. 30.

What’s happening at the October pack meeting

pack meeting

Due to a scheduling conflict, we’ll be meeting in the Camp Creek Elementary School cafeteria instead of at Mountain Park United Methodist Church. The meeting time remains 7 p.m.

This meeting will be your last opportunity to sign up for fall family camping, so make sure to reserve a campsite for your family at the registration table at the pack of the meeting room! If you haven’t paid your fees for camping, please remember to bring a check payable to BSA Pack 564!

The pack is planning a variety of activities, including opportunities to earn belt loops and a  pack dinner and campfire. Volunteers are needed to run belt loop sessions. Please contact Cubmaster Lance Wallace if you’d like to help.

You’ll also be able to sign up to attend the Pack Night at the Gwinnett Gladiators on Jan. 10.

And den leaders will be choosing a neighborhood to distribute Harvest for the Hungry food collection bags on Nov. 1, with pickup one week later.

Finally, don’t forget to bring your popcorn forms and money! We’ll be tallying up sales since the last pack meeting and raffling off more prizes.
