There will be no September hiking club hike. I can’t make the dates and other planning work. We’ll pick up in October, likely during the campout). Sorry again for the confusion.
Pack service day signup deadline approaching
Don’t forget to register by Friday, Sept. 18, for the pack cleanup/service day at DeShong Park.
This optional event fulfills one of the requirements for the Outdoor Ethics Action Award, but more importantly is a good opportunity to show great scouting spirit by helping beautify our Gwinnett community.
Full details and the signup can be found at https://www.bsapack564.org/wp-admin/post.php?post=1587&action=edit.
IMPORTANT: Saturday hiking club hike postponed
The hiking club hike planned for Saturday will need to be pushed back or possibly canceled. Turns out there’s a little thing going on at Stone Mountain Park this weekend. Maybe you’ve heard of the Yellow Daisy Festival? It won’t impact the trail, but traffic will be far too insane to ask you to willingly navigate.
I didn’t make the connection when I was planning this and didn’t until Kay Nagel kindly pointed it out to me today.
My plan has been not to reschedule hikes, but I was thinking of weather, not operator error. Given that this is the first one of this scouting year, I’d like to try to fit it in somehow. I can’t guarantee it however.
So, in summary, the only hiking going on Saturday at Stone Mountain Park will be in search of folk art, wind chimes or some festival food.
Humblest apologies for the confusion.
Registration now open for Fall Family Camping!
Online registration and payment is now open for fall family camping, Oct. 23-25.
You can register at home, from work or on your phone or tablet and pay using your credit card right away via PayPal, or you can register now and pay tonight or at the October pack meeting with cash or checks (or, if you have a Cub Bucks balance, you can use that, too). A registration table will also be available at the pack meeting if you need help, but we strongly encourage you to register and pay online from home or your own device if you’re able.
If you have any questions, please ask Michael Rennick or Mathew Kaswinkel, who are handling registrations this year.
Here’s the registration form (it is also available via the event page accessible from the calendar):
First pack meeting of the year!
Our first pack meeting of the new year is at 7 p.m. tonight at MPUMC. We’ve got a full agenda, so don’t be late!
Here’s what’s coming up:
- Matt McKenny will be formally installed as our new Cubmaster.
- Our newest scouts who have completed the initial requirements will receive their Bobcat badges.
- We’ll hear from all the dens.
- We’ll learn more about the hiking club, fall family camping and other upcoming events
- Scouts who have made at least one popcorn sale will get a monster truck, those who have sold at least $100 will get a raffle ticket, the highest seller so far will get a $25 gift card and the den with the most sales will get a pizza party (at a later date, of course!). Make sure to bring your order forms (be sure to enter any military booth donations in $30 increments) and all money you’ve collected from door-to-door sales (you’ll get the order form back).
