Pack meeting tonight! Bring your popcorn money and forms

CubScout_4KThe first pack meeting of the year is tonight at 7 p.m. at the Mountain Park United Methodist Church Family Life Center (the room on the lower level of the church).

For those of you who are new to scouting, Pack Meetings are where the whole pack family gets together to have some fun, recognize achievements and share information.

You’ll want you sit in the area set aside for your son’s rank. Boys should sit by dens, with parents scattered throughout to help maintain order.

Please remember to bring money from your popcorn sales, as well as your filled-out order forms! The information on your form will be tallied, matched against the funds you bring in and recorded, and the form will be returned for you to continue filling up.

All scouts who have sold at least one item will receive a Matchbox toy car at check-in.

And don’t forget to enter your guess how much money we raised in military donations this weekend for a chance to win a prize!

New scouts and leaders will be able to pick up their pack t-shirts at tonight’s meeting. We’ll also discuss the popcorn program, upcoming events and have a little fun, too.

See you there!

Fall family camping registration begins

Courtesy of Flickr user RichtptRegistration has opened for fall family camping, Oct. 24-26 at beautiful Stone Mountain Park.

This is one of the highlights of the year, so you won’t want to miss it.

In addition to all the regular camping fun, we are planning to offer some belt loop clinics and a pack campfire, as well as the traditional Saturday night pack meal. All scouts, siblings and parents are welcome to attend. The cost is $8 per person per night, plus $2 for Saturday evening dinner.

An online registration and payment system is coming (hopefully!), but for now, you’ll need to register and pay in person before or after the pack meeting tonight or the Oct. 14 pack meeting (the registration deadline is Oct. 15). Please look for the registration booth in the back of the pack meeting room.

Please bring a check made out to BSA Pack 564 for payment of fees.

If you have questions about registration, please use the contact form and choose “camping” in the “I need information about” field.

Please let your den leader know if you are new to camping and need information, advice or assistance with gear.

Autism Awareness for Scouters

Pack 564’s Carter Gibson gave a presentation on autism awareness in scouting at the Parent Leader Meeting on Sept. 2.

It contains great tips for leaders, and is well worth a read.

Relax! Most leadership skills used with all boys will also work well for Scouts with autism.

3, 2, 1 … Sell! Get all your popcorn info here!

2010_TrailsEnd Thanks for a great turnout at the kickoff. Now, get ready to sell! Visit our new popcorn page for all the details on the campaign, including key dates, frequently asked questions and resources such as selling tips, incentive details and forms. If you haven’t already, make sure you sign up for a shift at a military donation booth. Here are some other ways you can help boost sales:

  • Post an item on Facebook encouraging local friends and family to visit one of our booths to support the pack and our troops.
  • Set up an online sales account and send emails to out of town friends and family encouraging them to support your son’s scouting journey.  The Northeast Georgia Council has instructions.
  • Help your son sell by taking an order form to work.

Don’t forget, if your son sells $300 in popcorn and military donations, their pack dues will be taken care of for the year. Sell more, and your family can earn Cub Bucks to help offset the cost of pack activities such as Fall Family Camping and the Spring Trip. Plus, there are lots of great incentives the scouts can earn, as well!
