Autism Awareness for Scouters

Pack 564’s Carter Gibson gave a presentation on autism awareness in scouting at the Parent Leader Meeting on Sept. 2.

It contains great tips for leaders, and is well worth a read.

Relax! Most leadership skills used with all boys will also work well for Scouts with autism.

3, 2, 1 … Sell! Get all your popcorn info here!

2010_TrailsEnd Thanks for a great turnout at the kickoff. Now, get ready to sell! Visit our new popcorn page for all the details on the campaign, including key dates, frequently asked questions and resources such as selling tips, incentive details and forms. If you haven’t already, make sure you sign up for a shift at a military donation booth. Here are some other ways you can help boost sales:

  • Post an item on Facebook encouraging local friends and family to visit one of our booths to support the pack and our troops.
  • Set up an online sales account and send emails to out of town friends and family encouraging them to support your son’s scouting journey.  The Northeast Georgia Council has instructions.
  • Help your son sell by taking an order form to work.

Don’t forget, if your son sells $300 in popcorn and military donations, their pack dues will be taken care of for the year. Sell more, and your family can earn Cub Bucks to help offset the cost of pack activities such as Fall Family Camping and the Spring Trip. Plus, there are lots of great incentives the scouts can earn, as well!

Important update from Popcorn Chair Jeffrey Wilson

As you have heard we are doing Popcorn Sales differently this year.  I hope you will all make it to Monkey Joe’s on September 4th to learn what we are doing.

One of the things we are doing to help you reach your sales goal (which is set at an amount that will help you pay for scouting without having to pull a penny out of your pocket for pack events) is setup donation booths at the local Krogers.  Below is a link to a sign-up sheet.  We are asking every scout and a parent/guardian to work at least one 2 hour shift. with a limit of 2 scouts working each shift.

All the money raised during your 2 hour shift will be split between the scouts and credited on their sales forms to help you reach your sales goal.  The first weekend in September we have 4 locations.  That means 64 scouts can work the first weekend. ( Please do not sign up for two shifts on the first weekend.)  Those who work will have a better chance at winning something at the September Pack meeting (hint hint).

I am looking forward to a GREAT year of scouting.  And you can enjoy it WITHOUT paying a penny out of your pocket.  I’ll tell you how onSeptember 4th.

Popcorn Kickoff at Monkey Joes

Pack 564 is taking a brand new approach to funding our activities in 2014-2015, and it all starts with the Popcorn Kickoff, 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 4, at Monkey Joe’s in Tucker.

Would you like to go through an entire year of scouting without paying any money out of pocket? Plan to attend the kickoff event and learn how.

Bring your scouts and your calendars so you can sign up for time slots at local Kroger stores to begin selling and earning sales credits for your scout. The pack is doing everything possible to make scouting financially feasible for everyone.

New Tiger Dens to Meet Jointly

One of the primary keys to success for a new Tiger Den and Den Leader is the first meeting.

This year, to help our first-time Tiger Dens, we’re hosting their first meeting together from 7 to 8 p.m., in the Mountain Park United Methodist Church Family Life Center. We’ll split the three dens into separate corners of the room, and Committee Chair Bart Alcorn, Wolf Den Leader Michael Pearson and Cubmaster Lance Wallace along with any other adult leaders who can assist, will help the new Tiger Den Leaders run their meetings.

New Tiger parents should be sure to get out to the Scout Store and pick up their uniforms (from the belt up only) and their Tiger Cub Handbook. New Tiger Den Leaders should take their online Youth Protection Training and bring a copy of their certificate to the meeting, if they haven’t already turned it in.
